A young event rider is adding a blue and white ribbon to her horse’s plaits when competing this season to remember her best friend Izzy Squire.

Mirelle Radley has had over forty requests from other riders for her ribbons made to honour the memory of the 19-year-old British event rider who tragically died while travelling in Vietnam last month.

Izzy was on a backpacking tour of South East Asia with her 24-year-old sister Beth Anderson. They died taking part in a licensed guided tour according to the Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO).

Mirelle, 20 will be competing at all her BE events wearing a ribbon in Izzy’s cross country colours in her horse’s plaits.

The first outing on her 16.1hh horse called Henny 17th (‘Blue’) is at Stafford Horse Trials where they will be competing in the 90cm class on 18 March.

Mirelle will be tying a blue and white ribbon together in a bow around one of Blue’s plaits in the showjumping and cross country phases.

“I will also be pinning a blue and white heart shaped ribbon to my show jacket for the showjumping and will be encouraging my eventing friends to do the same,” said Mirelle.

“I just want everyone to know how amazing and loved Izzy is. She touched so many lives” added Mirelle, who went to school with Izzy. The girls had kept their horses at the same yard in Sheffield for five years.

Izzy Squire was a BEu18 midlands regional squad rider.

BEu18 coordinator for the midlands region, Arabella Bealby said she “will be missed by many.”

Izzy was a valued sponsored rider for EquiFeast.
